Early Life, Family & Education
On November 21, 1940, Richard was born to his parents, George and Emilie Teresa Pavlik Marcinko. He was born in Lansford, Pennsylvania, USA. The Marcinko family settled in New Brunswick when Richard was very young. Marcinko’s father was a Croatian, while his mother hailed from Slovakia. Therefore, he belongs to both Slovak and Croatian descent.
Marcinko enrolled in the US Naval Postgraduate School and studied international relations. He eventually earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University. Afterward, he attended Auburn University at Montgomery and received a Master’s degree in political science.
Career
Richard Marcinko did not complete high school education. Instead, he dropped out of high school and began searching for suitable jobs. He applied for the US Marines but got rejected. He was not selected in the USA Marines because he did not have a high school diploma. However, when he applied for US Navy in 1958, he got selected. He worked as a radioman in US Navy.
In June 1961, Marcinko was selected for the UDTR training (Underwater Demolition Team/ Replacement). He completed his graduation in October 1961. He worked as a member of UDT-21 for four years. In 1965, Marcinko became a member of the official commission. He graduated from Officer Candidate School in 1965 and became an ensign. Later, he became a member of SEAL Team Two in 1966.
Marcinko retired from United States Navy in 1989. He tried his hands in several other fields after his retirement. He published non-fiction books and became a motivational speaker. He also worked as a military consultant and talk show host.
